Costello, Richard "Dick" F.

Richard Francis Costello “Dick”, June 26, 1943 to November 1, 2021, son of the late Richard J. and Margaret G. Costello. Survived by his sister Peggy McKenzie-Tinto (Mario Tinto); nephews Ryan McKenzie (Alexis), David McKenzie; great nephews Shawn, Keegan, and Maximiliano McKenzie.

Dick was a graduate of St. John’s College High School, University of Maryland, and earned his Master’s Degree through Central Michigan University. He voluntarily entered the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, and eventually retired from Federal Government service. In his earlier years, Dick enjoyed snow skiing, jogging (especially Marine Corps Marathons), motorcycling, traveling internationally and across the U.S. He was a collector of music and coins, and volunteered his services to the Catholic Church. As a devout Catholic, he very much enjoyed his faith.

Viewing will be November 18, 10 a.m., followed by Solemn Requiem Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Washington, D.C., and burial at 2:00 pm at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Mary Mother of God Catholic Church or St. Thomas Apostle Church.

Deceased: Peter died on September 15, 2016 in Fairport, NY at the age of 76 as a result of Parkinson's Disease. He was in B-2 at OCS. While he was not commissioned, he went on to serve honorably in the Corps. He was a proud Veteran and a retiree of Xerox. An avid golfer, Peter was a member of Clifton Springs Country Club in Clifton Springs, NY and Ontario Country Club in Ontario, NY.

Gittens, John T.

Deceased: John died on July 12, 2001 at the age of 58 at his home in La Crescent, MN. He was a graduate of Winona State College in Minnesota. He attend the 38th OCC, but was not commissioned. He served a 13 month tour in Vietnam as an enlisted Marine. He was active in veterans organizations and served 4 years on the La Crescent City Council. He is buried in Crucifixion Cemetery in La Crescent.

Hamilton, Richard W. "Dick"

Deceased: Dick died on October 3, 2013 in Sherman, IL at the age of 68. He was commissioned with the Class on December 17, 1965. He proceeded to TBS, but his commission was recinded and he served out the balance of his contract in enlisted status. He progressed to the rank of Corporal before leaving the Corps in 1968. He worked for Horace Mann Insurance for 38 years and retired as their Director of Insurance Claims Management. He was buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL with full military honors.

Hutchison, Paul E.

Deceased: Born 16 Dec 1942 Passed 16 Dec 2023 Paul Edward Hutchison was born December 16, 1942, in St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend, IN. He graduated from John Adams High School in 1961. In 1965, he graduated from Indiana State University with a B.S. in Social Studies Education. Paul then enlisted in and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965 to 1967 achieving the rank of corporal. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his bravery. Upon leaving the service, he began his 38-year teaching career at Lowell High School (which later became a middle school) where he became the department chair, team leader, and the student council sponsor for 16 years. In 1970 he received his masters degree from Indiana State University. After his marriage to Laura (Roeber), he became a member of the Lowell First United Methodist Church which led him to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Rebuild Together for several years after his retirement. After their move to Zionsville four years ago, he attended the Zionsville Presbyterian Church. Paul loved his time as a Boy Scout. The oath he learned, he lived throughout his life. He served on the Lowell Board of Zoning Appeals for 16 years, was a lifetime member of the VFW, and volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels when he retired in 2005 until 2018. During his lifetime Paul enjoyed camping, hiking and walking, reading, fishing, kayaking, going to plays and concerts, traveling, playing cards, and being with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Laura, a son, Andy (Amparo, Chris [Marie] and Karina), and three daughters, Molly Mounce (Kevin), Megan Hutchison, and Emily Miller (Richard), five grandchildren: Ava, Sydney, Chris, Karina, Jackson, and Finley, a great granddaughter, Naomi, two sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Burket (Max), and parents Dorothy and Dick Hutchison of South Bend. Paul passed away at home on Saturday, December 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Service Number: 2165019

Obituary

Peter Lawrence Meade was born on September 25th, 1941, in Seattle, Washington. He was the second of eight children born to Richard & Marguerite Meade. Pete was raised in Catholicism and never wavered in his faith, attending weekly Mass throughout his life.

After graduating from Marquette University in 1964, Pete joined the United States Marine Corps and completed his basic training as an officer candidate in Quantico, Virginia.

Pete served a year in Vietnam, acting for nearly eleven months as executive officer for Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines: the “Walking Dead”. His personal decorations include a Purple Heart, and Two Bronze Stars with Combat “V”, first heroic, second meritorious. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in December 1969. Pete embraced the brotherhood of the “Corps” throughout his life and applied their motto “Semper Fi” to his unwavering loyalty to God, country, family and friends.

Pete and Charlene (née Boursier) met while working at Safeguard Business Systems in the mid-1970s. They were married in May 1980 and settled in Irvine. Pete became a father to son Nicholas Peter Meade in May 1982, followed by daughter Emily Rose Meade in March 1985.

In addition to his family, Pete loved the sea. He captained three sailboats in his lifetime, earned countless local and regional trophies, and successfully achieved his ultimate dream to race in the 2005 Transpac Yacht Race from Los Angeles to Honolulu.

On September 19, 2018, six days shy of his 77th birthday, Pete joined the Lord, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Irvine.

Minahan, John Jr.

Deceased: John C. Minahan Jr. passed away on March 25, 2021, at the age of 78 from Parkinson's disease. He was born March 1, 1943 in Melbourne Australia, the eldest of 5 children born to Mavis and John C. Minahan. His father, an officer in the United States Army Air Corp, married his mother during WWII in Australia. Mother and sons were able to travel to the United States in 1946. He is survived by his wife Onalie Minahan , sons Eliot and Keith, both of CA, a brother Peter Minahan of Scottsdale, AZ; sisters Judy Malloy of Colornado Springs, CO and Mary Martin of Brighton, CO., a granddaughter Grace of CA, and many nieces and nephews. After graduating from college, he joined the US Marine Corp and served from 1965-1969, including 13 months in Vietnam. After his discharge from the Marines, as a Captain, he attended law school. His education included Bachelor of Science, University of California, Berkley, 1965; Juris Doctor Magna Cum Laude, Creighton U, 1973; Master of Laws, Harvard University, 1976. He had a varied career, from being a Professor at Vermont Law School, South Royalton, Vermont 1974-1977; partner Kutak Rock and Campbell, Omaha, 1977-1982; principal, Dixon, Dixon and Minahan, PC 1982-1987 to being a Federal Bankruptcy Judge, United States District Court Nebraska, Lincoln, 1987-2001. He was also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Nebraska School of Law, Lincoln. After retirement he spent time in Nebraska and Colorado, before making his home in Sun Lakes, AZ. He loved to read and write poetry, dance and listen to county music. He achieved many goals in his life, which included a black belt in Judo, Tia Chi instructor, Marine Officer, Attorney, Law Professor and Federal judge. Memorial Services were held on Thursday, April 14, 2021 at the VA National Cemetery of Arizona.
