Deceased: Hank died on December 16, 2015 in Fort Washington, MD. He graduated from Hampton Institute and was in Alpha 1, at OCS. At Basic School, he was in Echo 4. He served two tours in Vietnam as an infantry officer. He was with 3rd Anti-Tank supporting 3/7 on his first tour and an adviser to the Vietnamese 5th Special Forces Group on his second. He also had a combat tour during Desert Storm. Hank had two major commands, Bravo Company 1/8 and 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines. He retired as a Colonel in 1996. His awards included the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star with Combat V, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V and Gold Star in lieu of 2nd Award. Lehigh Acres, FL - Reno G. "Butch" Rizzo, 78, a Lafayette,Ind native who was a star athlete at Central Catholic High School, a Marine who received the Bronze Star for "meritorious service," and was wounded in the Vietnam War, died at his home here on March 1. Date of Birth 20 Feb 1943, Passed 1 Mar 2021.
He had battled Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) for many years.
He was the son of Reno G. Rizzo, owner of Reno's Ceramic Tile Company in Lafayette, and Anna Loro Rizzo, who managed Neuwelt's Fabric Center for 25 years. His father died in 1991 and his mother died in 1983.
Butch Rizzo married Sally Winans in Indiana. She preceded him in death.
Born in 1943, Rizzo was active in youth sports in Lafayette including Little League, Pony, Pony Grad, and Legion baseball where he was named to all-star teams.
He attended St. Boniface School and graduated from Central Catholic High School where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball.
In the fall of 1961 he received a football scholarship and enrolled at Wisconsin State College in River Falls, Wisc., now the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
He graduated in May of 1965 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. A member of ROTC during college, upon graduation he entered U.S. Marine Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Va. and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in January of 1966.
Rizzo served three years in the Marine Corps and attained the rank of Captain. He played football for the Marines and served combat duty in Vietnam where he earned the Bronze Star with a combat "V" for "meritorious service in connection with operations against Viet Cong forces" from October 1967 to August 1968.
On August 5, 1968 Rizzo was severely wounded while leading 30 Marines in a convoy of seven vehicles when they were ambushed by an estimated 100 North Vietnamese soldiers. A bullet entered his chest, passed through his lung, and lodged next to his spine.
Rizzo continued in command and crawled 100 yards through an open area to a more secure location behind a dirt berm where wounded soldiers stuffed mud in bullet holes to stop the bleeding, saving their lives.
Rizzo was airlifted out of the combat area by a U.S. Army gunship, underwent successful surgery and was sent home. He was discharged from the Marines at the end of 1968.
After the Marines he earned a master's degree from Wisconsin State University and in 1970 began a career with Chrysler Corporation.
He started his career with Chrysler in a management position in Mankato, Minn. and advanced in rank through promotions to positions in Minneapolis, Minn., Omaha, Neb., and Pearl River, N.Y. He next moved to Chester Valley, Pa. where he served as zone manager of the Philadelphia and New York markets.
He traveled extensively, taking his top dealers on trips including a journey on the Orient Express and a cruise on the Queen Mary that ended in New York City Harbor for the spectacular fireworks display celebrating the July 4, 1976, 200th anniversary of the USA.
After retirement from Chrysler he lived briefly in Sebring, Fla., then had a home built in the Fiddlesticks Country Club, in Fort Myers where he was an avid and excellent golfer, playing regularly on the club's two 18-hole championship courses, winning many tournament awards.
For the past six years he made his home in the Fort Myers area with his daughter, Kathryn Rizzo McCardell, and his grandson Christopher, who survive.
He is also survived by sisters, Angelyn Rizzo and Ida McCloud, both of Fort Myers, along with two nephews Tony (Deana) McCloud, of Fort Myers, and Jeremy McCloud, of South Bend, Indiana. Angelyn Rizzo is retired from the Journal and Courier where she worked for 37 years as a reporter, editor, and director of human resources and community relations.
There will be no public service. Burial will be at Sarasota National Cemetery, in Sarasota, Fl.

Deceased: Bill died on February 27, 1991 at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, IL of cancer. In Vietnam, Bill served as an infantry platoon commander with Alpha Company, 1/4. Bill suffered a grievous shrapnel wound to his lower back from an NVA recoilless rifle round on May 9, 1967 at Con Thien that severed his spinal cord and left him a paraplegic. Undaunted by his injuries, the Loyola University undergraduate, went on, after discharge from the Marine Corps, to earn masters degrees from Governors State University and Chicago State University. He later received a Doctorate in English from Illinois State University and was employed as an associate professor of English at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL before being incapacitated by the cancer. Earlier in his career, Bill had served as an assistant professor of English at both Chicago State University and Moraine Valley Community College. Bill also authored an English textbook that remains in wide circulation. Despite the physical challenges, Bill was active in civic affairs. He was a member of Chicago Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America and served a term as its president. Bill also served on the Oak Lawn, IL library board including a term as president of the board. Bill was buried with full military honors at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery located in Evergreen Park, Illinois. OCS: B-4 TBS: E-4
Deceased: Joe was commissioned through the PLC program, while a student at Creighton University. He joined our Class at TBS. In Vietnam, Joe was the Commanding Officer of Bravo Battery, 1st LAAM Battalion near DaNang. Later in his career he had a second combat tour as OIC and Principal Planner for Marine Aviation Operations during Desert Storm in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During his 30 years of active duty, Joe accumulated three Legions of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat "V". Upon retirement from the Corps, Joe became Manager of the Communications Division of the County of Orange and later its Director. He also had a long association with Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, CA, including serving on the Board of Directors for 5 years. OCS: PLC TBS: E-4
Deceased: On Friday, October 7, 2022, William “Bill” Robinson, Jr., 82, of Nobleboro, died peacefully at Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta after a period of declining health.
Born in 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Ethel Stuart Robinson and William John Robinson, Bill earned a BA from Williams College in Massachusetts. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service. He served honorably in the Marines, achieving the rank of Captain.
Bill worked at Bath Iron Works for nearly twenty years, most recently with the drafting department. On June 16, 2001 he married social worker Joyce Vianey-Liaud, and the couple settled in Nobleboro in a Shelter Institute home Bill had built himself. Bill had two children from an earlier marriage, Nick and Hannah.
Bill was a quiet man with a wry sense of humor. Friends and family joked he could say more with a raised eyebrow than most people could say with words. He loved being on the water and had a passion for the Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He was an artist, and created lovely paintings and pastels of coastal Maine scenes.
He also had a soft spot for people and animals who needed a helping hand. He and his wife Joyce always had a rescue dog and cat at home. In his retirement, he found great satisfaction in serving as a substitute teacher at Medomak Valley High School and as a volunteer with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program at Great Salt Bay Community School.
Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Charles; and his sister, Pamela Nichols.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his sister, Susan Meade; his son, Nick Robinson and Nick’s partner Kirk Trabant of Brooklin; his daughter, Hannah McGhee and her husband Jamie McGhee of Newcastle; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Will Seaman and Ashlee McGhee; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kolby McGhee-Thompson.
A service for Bill will be held at 1:00pm, on Sunday, June 18th at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Park in Bristol. Paul A. Ross, of Falmouth, died on October 16, 2022 at Mayflower Place in West Yarmouth at the age of 79. He was the beloved husband of Sharon (Lussier) Ross with whom he shared 30 wonderful years of marriage.
Paul was born on November 29, 1942 to the late Archibald Ross and Alexina (Maceachern) Ross in Newton, MA. Following high school, Paul attended Boston College where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Shortly after finishing school, Paul proudly served his country during the Vietnam war in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his return, Paul had a long career as a computer programmer.
Paul was well known and involved in his community. He was a man of faith, a long-time parishioner at Christ the King Church, in Mashpee. He not only was part of the 50 Plus club at Christ the King Church, but also served as both a Board Member and President. Paul was an avid golfer and loved spending his day on the golf course with his friends. He was also a talented singer and was part of a Barber Shop singing group. More than anything, Paul was a devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife Sharon Ross; his sister Mary Pietkiewicz, and her husband Karl; his many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 8:30 am – 10:30 am at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 74 Algonquin Ave. (RTE 151), in Mashpee. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at Christ the King Church, 5 Job’s Fishing Rd., in Mashpee. A graveside service will immediately follow at 12:30 PM at Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne.
